I’m sharing three recipes in this post today for fall body scrubs with scents that smell delicious – they’re that good!
Along with the change of season comes a change in skin care. Out goes the sunscreen, and in comes fall body scrubs and moisturizer galore.
If like me, you’re partial to smooth skin going into winter, then you’ll love today’s post.
You’ll find three fall body scrub recipes below for you to make in the comfort of your own home.
Using simple, all-natural ingredients – they are kinder and gentler than anything you’ll find in the store.
Making body scrubs is so much fun and has huge benefits, such as reduced waste, better results, and cost savings (store-bought scrubs can be so expensive and are full of nasty toxins a lot of the time).

What are body scrubs?
A body scrub is an exfoliator designed to remove dead, dry cells from the skin, revealing fresher, healthier skin underneath.
They come in all sorts of sizes and packages and are usually made from a salt or granular sugar base, but sometimes you’ll find them made with coffee grains too.
All body scrubs are designed to act as a gentle abrasive to the skin.
Now be warned! Some manufactured body scrubs contain bead-like substances made of plastic.
These are terrible for your skin and even worse for the environment. It’s far better to use a natural body scrub such as pure sugar (as in my recipes below).
How often should you use a body scrub?
There really is no ‘should’ when it comes to body scrub.
The one thing to know is that using a body scrub every day is going overboard and can lead to overly sensitive or sore skin.
So a good rule of thumb is to start by exfoliating once a week and see how you get on. If you feel your skin needs extra exfoliation, then another session wouldn’t hurt.
I personally exfoliate my legs every time before hair removal, and my arms and back once a week at most.
And don’t forget to follow with a good moisturizer (here’s a homemade one for you to try)
body scrub benefits
One of the main benefits of body scrub is that it softens and smooths the skin.
By removing a superficial layer of dull, dead skin cells, they reveal brighter, more luminous skin underneath, which can be further softened by using a good, natural moisturizer.
A good body scrub can also reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs, preventing unsightly red bumps and blotches.
It will also remove dry skin flakes, which can be challenging to get rid of by moisturizing alone.
All in all, a body scrub ought to be a key part of a beauty routine – just remember, don’t overdo it!
pumpkin spice sugar scrub
Here is the first body scrub recipe – perfect for fall!
Also, make sure you check out my previous post on pumpkin spice soap which is a great partner for this body scrub.
Layering the same fragrance using the soap and then the scrub will help extend the scent!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2 tbsp of pumpkin puree
- 5 drops of cassia EO
- 1/2 tbsp of olive oil
Instructions:
- Combine the dry ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir in the wet ingredients.
Transfer to an airtight storage container. This particular scrub must be stored in the fridge and ought to be used within 3 days to keep it at its best.
gingerbread body scrub
Doesn’t this sound delicious? I love the smell of ginger. It takes me to Christmas vibes in seconds.
This one too uses sugar as the exfoliant and can be kept in a dry, airtight container for up to a month.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 tsp of nutmeg spice
- 1/8 tsp of ground coriander
- 5 drops of ginger essential oil
- 1/8 cup of olive oil
Instructions:
- Combine the dry ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir in the wet ingredients.
Transfer to an airtight storage container and use it within 4 weeks.
apple spice body scrub
I love anything apple related. The smell is just amazing!
This one, again, is best stored in the fridge and used within three days of being made.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp of cinnamon spice
- 1/2 tbsp of apple puree or applesauce
- 5 drops of douglas fir EO
- 1/2 tbsp of olive oil
Instructions:
- Combine the dry ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir in the wet ingredients.
Transfer to an airtight storage container and store in the fridge. Use within 3 days.
How to use these body scrubs
The best way to use these scrubs is to apply them with your hands.
Take a generous amount and smooth it on your body, working in gentle, circular motions to exfoliate the skin.
You can leave it on your skin for a few minutes to allow the olive oil to add some moisture too.
And why not try using a sponge or loofah with these scrubs if you don’t have sensitive skin? This will increase the exfoliating effect.
Or try these gentle loofah soap bars!
Only use these body scrubs on unbroken, undamaged skin – always avoid cuts and wounds.
And certainly, don’t use these scrubs on any sensitive parts.
Using natural ingredients
To me, using natural ingredients has so many benefits.
They are way better for your skin and your general health – for your living space in particular – giving off no known toxins or chemicals.
And the use of essential oils is generally safe. Just ensure you follow the dosage guidelines in these recipes.
I would like to say that you should avoid using these scrubs on children, as the sugar granules can irritate younger, sensitive skin.
I hope you love making and using these fall body scrubs. They smell amazing and really do help to smooth and soften the skin.

I’m so excited to start making all these wonderful skin creams and more
Thank you Laura for encouraging me that I can do this
Chelsey says
Could you leave out the pumpkin purée to make the Pumpkin Spice sugar scrub more shelf stable? Also, what other essential oils could you use instead of Cassia? Thanks in advance!
Laura says
Yes, you can leave it out but may need to add more oil to get the right consistncy. You can use cinnamon or wild orange. I love those fall scents too and will make a beautiful soap bar!
