Did you just receive your doTERRA starter kit and aren’t sure what to do with it? This post will teach you everything you need to know about your new set of essential oils, plus give you 25 practical recipes you can start making right away!
I have been using essential oils for several years, but I can remember how foreign the idea of oils was to me in the past.
When I purchased my first set of oils, I had no idea what I was doing or how to use them. So when they arrived at my house, I was ready to start right away, but honestly, I had zero clues what to do with them.
If you are brand new to essential oils and just received your starter kit, this post is for you! I am going to share a little about each oil, how to use it, and 25 recipes you can make with your new DoTERRA kit.
Essential Oils in Your DoTERRA Starter Kit
You can purchase several different enrollment kits, or maybe you made your own kit by piecing together essential oils. However, the most popular kits come with the top 10 essential oils.
The first six oils on the list are single oils, and the last four oils are a blend of essential oils.
- Lemon
- Lavender
- Peppermint
- Tea tree
- Oregano
- Frankincense
- On Guard
- Breathe
- Digestzen
- Deep Blue
Lemon
Lemon essential oil can be used for natural cleaning as it has cleansing and purifying properties. It will be your best friend if you are trying to remove any sticky residue, grease, or grime.
It can help support a healthy immune system, give a natural boost of energy, and help with digestive issues. Simply dilute lemon in a small amount of carrier oil and apply to the area of concern.
Lemon oil can be used aromatically, topically, and internally.
Lavender
Lavender essential oil is most known for its calming and relaxing properties. When diffused at night, it can promote a healthy night’s sleep, help you drift off to sleep better, and help you stay asleep longer.
Lavender is also great for the skin and can soothe most skin imperfections. It works great for minor cuts and scrapes. It is very soothing and can cleanse the area.
Lavender oil can be used aromatically, topically, and internally.
Peppermint
Peppermint essential oil is very cooling and soothing for the skin and muscles. It can be used to reduce tension, open up airways, relieve occasional stomach discomfort, and help with focus.
Peppermint essential oil should be diluted in a carrier oil before being applied to the area of concern. This oil can come in handy for car sickness and nauseousness, just by breathing it in out of the bottle.
Peppermint oil can be used aromatically, topically, and internally.
Tea Tree
Popular uses for this oil include cleaning, skin, and hair. Similar to lemon, tea tree essential oil has cleansing and purifying properties making it a great addition to your natural cleaning routine.
Tea tree essential oil not only cleans your floors and vanities it will also cleanse the skin and hair. Adding a few drops of tea tree to your shampoo can help keep your hair and scalp clean and even help stimulate hair growth.
Tea tree oil can be used aromatically and topically.
Oregano
Oregano essential oil is one of those oils you won’t use as often, but one that is good to have on hand. It is the go-to oil when you’re looking for that extra boost to the immune system.
Oregano is a hot oil and must be used with caution. This oil can burn the skin if not diluted properly with a carrier oil. Should you notice a burning feeling, apply a carrier oil to relieve the pain.
Oregano oil can be used aromatically and topically. If used internally, be sure to take in a capsule to avoid getting the oil on the mouth or throat.
Frankincense
Frankincense essential oil is known as the king of essential oil and can be used for almost everything. I always say, “If in doubt, use frankincense!”
It can help with digestion, respiratory, skin, hair, and even overall wellness. Apply it to the chest to help open up airways or to the stomach to help relieve stomach discomforts.
Frankincense oil can be used aromatically, topically, and internally.
On Guard
On Guard is doTERRA’s protective blend. It is a blend of wild orange, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, and rosemary. This blend is designed to boost the immune system and protect the body from environmental threats.
Use On Guard topically to boost the immune system by applying to the area of concern, down the spine, or on the bottom of the feet.
On Guard oil can be used aromatically, topically, and internally.
Breathe
Breathe is the respiratory blend made with laurel leaf, eucalyptus leaf, peppermint plant, melaleuca leaf, lemon peel, cardamom seed, and ravintsara essential oils.

I love your recipes but would love to know what makes them work?
Eg with the anti age products or the wrinkles product… what does each ingredient do?
