Tea tree essential oil has many benefits for your hair, skin, and overall health. Learn the best ways to use tea tree oil, as well as how to make essential oil roller bottles and diffuser blends.

Tea tree essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the tea tree plant. It is most known for its cleansing and purifying properties, making it a great essential oil for the skin, cleaning, and boosting the immune system. Tea tree can also help to keep the scalp healthy and promote hair growth.

Most people are familiar with tea tree essential oil but may know it as melaleuca essential oil. Melaleuca and tea tree are the same thing and used the same way. Depending on the brand, different companies will refer to this oil with one of those names.

Tea tree is an oil that I often use in my natural skin care products as it can help to reduce skin blemishes, cleanse the skin, and be used to reduce signs of aging. I also add tea tree to most of my hair care products for the many benefits that it has for the hair and scalp.

TEA TREE OIL FOR HAIR

Conventional hair care products often contain tea tree essential oil because of the widely known benefits it has for the hair.

Tea tree can promote hair growth, help with an itchy dry scalp, reduce the likeliness of lice, moisturize hair, and keep the hair healthy.

You can add tea tree essential oil to your shampoo or make a homemade serum, spray, or shampoo with it. Adding tea tree to your weekly hair care routine can reduce chemical build-up and dead skin on the scalp.

TEA TREE FOR SKIN

Tea tree oil has amazing benefits for the skin and can be used on the skin when diluted properly. Essential oils are very concentrated. Be sure to always dilute before applying to the skin.

HOW TO USE TEA TREE ON THE SKIN?

You can make an essential oil roller bottle by adding 15-20 drops of tea tree essential oil to a 10mL roller bottle and topping it off with a carrier oil. Secure the roller bottle lid and shake well. Making a roller bottle is an easy way to apply an essential oil topically, especially to the face.

If you are applying tea tree essential oil to a larger surface area, you can dilute a few drops into a lotion, salve, or carrier oil. The best place to apply tea tree essential oil is to the area of concern, the bottom of the feet, or down the spine.

BENEFITS OF USING TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL ON THE SKIN

  • Cleanse and purify the skin
  • Reduce skin blemishes
  • Fights acne and can be used as a spot treatment
  • Promotes wound healing when applied to cuts and scrapes
  • Relieves itch and helps with bug bites
  • Keeps toenails and fingernails healthy
  • Reduces skin irritations

AROMATIC USE

The most popular way to use essential oils aromatically is with a diffuser. Use tea tree essential oil aromatically to cleanse the air, boost the immune system, and eliminate odor.

Tea tree can also be used aromatically by inhaling the aroma straight out of the bottle, making a room spray, or placing a few drops on clothing.

If you have an essential oil diffuser, try adding 4-6 drops of tea tree essential oil for a clean, fresh scent. Below find my favorite essential oil diffuser blends using tea tree essential oil.
