If you’re lucky enough to have naturally curly hair, then you’ll love this curl-enhancing cream!

It’s full of natural ingredients which do good things for your hair and make your curls stand out so much better.

I have dead straight hair, despite multiple attempts over the years to add some curls in.

So I gave this curl-enhancing cream recipe to my sister, who I’m envious to say has the most gorgeous natural curls ever.

And she honestly raved about it.

The reality is that a lot of women with curly hair also suffer from dehydrated hair, which tends to develop into frizzy, untamable locks.

This curl-enhancing cream will solve that problem in one application, transforming dry ends into moisturized, beautifully defined curls with volume.

One thing I’m mega passionate about is the cost savings of making your own beauty products. I find store-bought hair products can be so expensive, and I often wonder why!

Let’s face it, they are full of nasty chemicals, toxic solutions, and, to be frank, things we don’t even want to know about.

And then that stuff is meant to go on our hair and body?!

So making a DIY curl cream at home gets my vote any day, being far better for your hair (oh, and of course, your bank account).

What does curl cream do?

A curl cream is designed to improve and define curls. It’s a natural curl enhancer.

So it’s perfect to moisturize and tame unruly curls into more manageable, defined, soft, flowing curls.

This particular curl-enhancing cream will not give you curls if you don’t already have them.

You would need to curl your hair first (if this is something you would like to do), and then you could use this cream as a finisher product and a hair moisturizer to boot.

how to use curl cream

If you’re wondering how much curl cream to use, then read on! The key to using this particular curl-enhancing cream is to apply small amounts

A little goes a long way!

It contains both mango butter and shea butter, rich in moisturizing properties, so go easy first of all.

Take a small coin-sized amount (or less) and rub it between your hands. Then gently dab it onto the ends of your hair just after it’s been washed (applying it to wet hair is best).

Remember to apply it to where you want your curls to be defined.

A light touch is required to help define your curls rather than smother them. This is why you only need a small amount to achieve excellent results.

My sister tried this curl cream for her natural hair and loved it – but she certainly avoided the scalp area else it would have weighed her curls down and made her hair look greasy.

So, apply only to the ends of your hair, and of course, you can always add more if you need to.

Why make your own curl cream

Of course, it is super easy to go and buy a curl-enhancing cream from the store and use it straight away, right?

But what you perhaps do not know is just how many harmful ingredients those creams contain.

All you need to do is pick up a bottle and read the ingredients to see all the horrific chemicals – it’s enough to make you go dizzy.

This is why I’m an advocate of homemade products

You know exactly what goes in them, and you can tailor the ingredients to make them better suited to you.

The ratio of ingredients I’ve used in this recipe is suitable for most hair types, but if you have greasy hair, you could always reduce the amount of mango and shea butter, which should still enhance your curls.ย

Or, simply use less and make it last longer!

Hi! I’ve been looking for a good DIY curl cream! Do you know if I could substitute regular castor oil for black, or are there properties to the vblack that the regular castor oil doesn’t have?

    1. Laura says:

I do find this recipe to work well, but you can try it with regular castor oil.

  2. Kayti Andrews says:

Do I have to use Cetearyl alcohol?

    1. Laura says:

It helps to combine the ingredients. You can leave it out, but it will not have as hard of a texture.
