Learn how to make a homemade natural eye cream to moisturize and nourish the skin under your eyes. It can help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while reducing puffiness and dark spots.
DIY eye cream works wonders when applied under the eyes to help with wrinkles, fine lines, and dark circles. It can help tighten skin and reduce puffiness; essentially, it works as an anti-aging face lotion.
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen. Along with stress and lack of sleep, we can get dark circles and puffiness under the eyes.
If you are looking for the best and easiest homemade eye cream, then this is a must-try! I strive to stay away from conventional skincare products and prefer to make my own, including this lovely under-eye cream.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- This rich and nourishing eye cream is made with just 3 ingredients! It’s so simple to make, yet it works incredibly well.
- Making your own skincare ensures you know exactly what’s going on your skin. This recipe uses only all-natural ingredients.
- You can customize this recipe to be the perfect fit for your skin type! Swap out the coconut oil for alternative ingredients or change up the essential oils to make a product that suits you.
What You’ll Need
- Coconut oil: I use coconut oil in so many of my skincare recipes because it’s moisturizing and nourishing to the skin. According to Healthline, virgin coconut oil “sped up healing, improved antioxidant status and increased levels of collagen” when applied to wounds. This has promising benefits for overall skin health and anti-aging! Look for extra virgin coconut oil that is unrefined and cold-pressed for best results.
- Vitamin E oil: As a natural antioxidant, vitamin E oil has numerous benefits for the skin. It protects the skin from free radicals and provides deep hydration, which can slow the signs of aging.
- Essential oils: You can choose your own combination of essential oils for this recipe. Keep reading to see what I recommend for anti-aging and skin benefits.
- Container: You’ll need a small airtight container to store your eye cream in. This can be a mason jar or a small cosmetics container.
How to Make Natural Eye Cream
Step 1. Measure coconut oil into a small bowl.
Step 2. Add the vitamin E oil and essential oils.
Step 3. Stir the mixture until the ingredients are well combined.
Step 4. Transfer the eye cream into a small airtight container.
How to Use Under Eye Cream
Apply a small amount of cream under the eyes and massage gently into the skin. Avoid getting any of the cream in the eyes!
For best results, apply daily before bed. It is best to apply after washing the face (I use a homemade face wash) and applying moisturizer, such as natural homemade face moisturizer or DIY night cream.
To keep the skin around my eyes looking youthful and refreshed, I have found that alternating between using this eye cream, my homemade eye serum, and an under eye mask works wonders.
The eye cream helps to hydrate and nourish the delicate skin, while the mask provides a tightening effect for a more youthful appearance.
Tips + Notes
- You can store this at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Coconut oil will stay in a solid state when it is under 76°F. If your house is warmer than that, you may want to store it in the refrigerator.
- If you don’t keep it in the fridge, it’s best to store homemade eye cream out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry place.
- Be sure not to get the eye cream in your eyes; carefully apply it under the eyes.
- As with most skincare products, consistent use is the key to seeing benefits. I recommend using it daily for best results.
- If you don’t have all of the essential oils I recommend, don’t worry. You can just add more drops of the ones you do have and still see benefits.
- Always perform a patch test before using a new product. Apply some of the eye cream to your inner arm and watch for adverse reactions before applying it to your undereyes.
Essential Oils for Eye Cream
Several essential oils can be used to help with anti-aging and can be great to add to this homemade under-eye cream.
Be sure not to get essential oils into the eye. It is OK to use them under the eye as long as they are properly diluted first.
Some of the best oils for wrinkles, fine lines, and bags under the eyes are frankincense, rose, lavender, cypress, and Roman chamomile.
I like to use 2 drops of each of these essential oils in my eye cream. If you don’t have them all, just use what you have. The cream will still work great even with just the coconut oil and vitamin E oil!
You can also make a roller bottle for anti-aging using essential oils and a carrier oil.
Best Essential Oils for This Recipe
- Frankincense essential oil: Frankincense oil is moisturizing to the skin and has antioxidant properties that reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Some studies, like this one, have found frankincense oil to protect against UV-B radiation and collagen degradation, both of which cause signs of aging in skin.
- Rose essential oil: Rose essential oil is incredible for dry skin and wrinkles. Roses are high in vitamin C and reduce signs of oxidative stress on the skin. It works well for wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes.
- Lavender essential oil: Lavender reduces the appearance of skin imperfections, and it can soothe occasional skin irritations. It is also great for blemishes, bumps, blothciness, and scars. Lavender is a great oil for the face and under the eyes, as it is very gentle and can be used on sensitive skin.
- Cypress essential oil: Cypress can help with blood circulation when applied topically to the skin, making it a great oil for dark circles under the eyes.
- Roman chamomile essential oil: Roman chamomile essential oil has many benefits for the skin. I use it in my baby lotion and baby wash because it is great for sensitive skin, which means it’s also great for under the eyes. Chamomile can help with puffiness and hyperpigmentation on the skin.
Recipe FAQs
Coconut oil is so amazing for the skin, and it is found in almost all of my skincare products. It is great for making anti-aging lotion because when it is absorbed into the skin, it helps to keep your connective tissues strong. This can help to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, especially around the eyes.
Coconut oil is highly moisturizing to the skin. It is also very gentle and works great on the sensitive skin around the eyes and on the face.
Sure! You can also use mango butter, cocoa butter, or shea butter. I use a DIY face moisturizer with shea butter, and it works wonderfully, but which butter you use depends on your skin type.
Use this soothing and nourishing natural eye cream under your eyes each day and enjoy the immense benefits! Having homemade skincare products has me looking forward to my nightly skincare routine, and I bet it will do the same for you.

Hi Laura
Can your eye cream recipe be made into a roller blend with jojoba?
Thanks for sharing the recipes and info and tips.
Can I use arrowroot powder to this to help with the greasiness?
Hi Laura! Thank you for this recipe. When I made this it didn’t turn out creamy white like yours. Do you know what I can do? Mine is not creamy at all.
About what measurement is 10 drops of vitamin E oil?
About 1/8 teaspoon
Does fractionated coconut oil have the same properties? I’m curious about making a roller bottle with this recipe.
Hi, i have a question what is the shelf life and to extend it can I use a preservative?
You can add an antioxidant like vitamin E antioxidant or rosemary antioxidant to help extend the shelf life of the product if desired.
