WHY DIY FACE WASH?
If you have been around the blog long, you know I am a big fan of making my own homemade products to cut down on chemicals in my home. I find that making my own is the best option and can save you money!
Unfortunately, most conventional face washes you find at the store are loaded with toxins and chemicals you won’t want in your home or touching your skin. Here are a few of the many chemicals that can be found in conventional face cleaners:
PARABENS
Parabens are a group of compounds used as a preservative to prevent bacteria and mold from growing in most face washes, cosmetics, and personal products. It sounds like a good thing, but they also have some major drawbacks. They mimic estrogen and cause hormone imbalances. Parabens are found in 99% of breast cancer tumors!
SYNTHETIC COLORS AND FRAGRANCE
Artificial colors, dyes, and fragrances can cause allergic reactions, contain hormone disturbers, carcinogens, and linked to damage sperm. Some dyes, like red40, are banned in other countries. Use your essential oils instead of fragrance for a natural alternative and their health benefits.
TRICLOSAN
Triclosan is an antibacterial agent and preservative found in personal care and home cleaning products. It is a hormone disruptor; and can irritate the skin, lungs, and eyes. It is especially dangerous for the thyroid. Because of its antibacterial properties, it can also be damaging for our gut flora and pose a problem with the good and bad bacteria balance in our bodies.

Thanks for sharing. I tried the acne proned skin, is there a specific order to mix the ingredients? I asked because the mixture I got was partly liquid and partly emulsified but they didn’t mix. Is it supposed to be like that? Thanks again.
lauraascher says
Yes it will do this because of the pH levels. You can just stir it before each use or if you prefer you can leave out the castile soap and use the essential oil and vinegar first and then wash with the castile soap second.

Are there alternative oils to rose for the anti aging face wash?
Laura says
You can omit it from the recipe if you don’t have it or you could do jasmine essential oil instead.

Will this anti-aging face wash work in a PET plastic pump bottle?
lauraascher says
Because of the coconut oil it depends on the temperature in your house if this one will be solid or liquid. If it solidifies then it wouldn’t come out of a pump bottle so I would suggest doing it in a different container.

Your face wash for dry skin excited me! I’ve never thought to use sugar in a face wash. So can you use this as often as you would any other cleanser?
Thanks!
Laura says
Thank you! Yes, you can use them like any other cleanser.

How would you make an anti aging face wash to use in a pump? I have castille soap and liquid oils—
Kaitlyn says
Could I use different essential oils for the sensitive skin recipe? For example could I use chamomile? I’m not sure about like orange, but I know I love the orange scent. So I’m curious if I could substitute the lavender with either of those? As long as it doesn’t react bad to my skin
Laura says
Yes of course! Lavender and frankincense are good for sensitive skin but you can use any you prefer.
