Are you sick of drawing on eyebrows every day? The essential oils in this roller bottle will help with eyebrow regrowth. Simply apply topically to the brows once daily to help fill in thin eyebrows.
If you follow along with this blog, you have probably noticed I like to make everything natural.
So coming up with this eyebrow growth serum, I knew I would want to stay away from any potentially harmful chemicals. Essential oils are good for almost anything.
So why could I not use essential oils for eyebrow growth?
I am always behind the times as things go in and out of style and frankly, it is so hard to keep up. Just like style changes for clothes, interior design, and hair-dos, so do eyebrows. Who would have thought?
I remember in high school that it was cool to have as thin eyebrows as possible. Unfortunately for me, I have always had thick brows that would form into a unibrow without waxing.
Waxing my eyebrows became a thing at a very young age. They were bad!
Well now those super thin brows are out and thick is back in. Yay for me! While I use my homemade eyebrow tint to maintain my brows’ shape, this essential oil roller bottle is designed to promote thicker, fuller growth.
Essential oils for eyebrow growth
Making your own eyebrow growing serum is easy and can be used to thicken eyebrows and even lashes, as I do in my homemade lash serum. In fact, the essential oils I am using in this are the same as the ones I used in my DIY hair growth spray.
All you need to make a serum are essential oils and carrier oil. There are several essential oils that can be used to thicken and lengthen hair and while none of them are specifically for eyebrows, they all have studies showing their effectiveness for hair growth on the scalp.
One study done in 1998 stated that rosemary, cedarwood and lavender oils all have hair growth promoting properties.
My favorite carrier oil to use is fractionated coconut oil because it has a lot of benefits for the skin and hair and it has no scent.
Other popular carrier oils include sweet almond oil and jojoba oil, which I discuss in detail in my post on the benefits of jojoba oil. I also have a list of all the carrier oils and their benefits for you to choose from.
Lastly, you can also use castor oil as your carrier oil. While there have been few studies to conclusively say it can help with hair growth, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence for it! This article in MBG does a great job outlining the possible benefits of castor oil for the hair.
Why does hair thin?
Eyebrows can thin from over-plucking and waxing when we all wanted the thin brows, or it could just be associated with age. As we age, our hair follicles begin to shrink. As a result, hair growth slows down.
If you have to paint on your eyebrows every morning or just have to use the eyebrow pencil to fill in the gaps, you may want to try this eyebrow serum.
It can do wonders to naturally grow hair and fill in eyebrows without the use of an eyebrow gel recipe!

Key ingredients
For this serum, we are going to use a combination of lavender, rosemary, and cedarwood.
- Lavender essential oil can produce more hair follicles to help thicken and strengthen hair, according to a 2016 study.
- Rosemary essential oil is the top oil for hair growth and thickness. There have been quite a few studies on this oil, but one particular study on AGA treatment showed it to be an effective alternative to minoxidil.
- Cedarwood essential oil, when used with the other oils, may promote hair growth. It is a very thick oil and has a wonderful woodsy scent.
- Your choice of carrier oil. I am using fractionated coconut oil, but you can use any lightweight carrier oil!
Substitution: I have had quite a few people ask if they could use peppermint oil. And while according to this study by the NIH, which shows how peppermint can help hair growth, I choose to leave it out of this serum since it will be applied so close to the eyes.
You can make your serum in a glass bottle with a dropper top or an empty roller bottle. I prefer to use the roller bottle as I find it easiest to apply.
Brow serum recipe instructions
Step 1: Gather all your ingredients ahead of time.
Step 2: Add 10 drops of each essential oil to the roller bottle.
Step 3: Fill the roller bottle the rest of the way with your carrier oil. I use a small dropper to prevent spills!
Step 4: Secure the rollerball top and shake well before applying.
How to thicken eyebrows
It is best to apply these essential oils for eyebrow growth serum to the eyebrows once a day. I suggest applying at night time after washing your face and before bed.
You can do it in the morning, but it may affect your eye makeup.
Apply this serum daily or as needed. It can take up to 6 months to see noticeable results!
Precautions
#1. Remember, essential oils should never be used in the eyes. It is OK to use them around the eyes, but be careful not to get them in the eyes. If you do, just wash out with cool water.
#2. Rosemary essential oil should not be used if you are pregnant or nursing.
#3. Always perform a patch test before using any new DIY.

Hi! I am allergic to lavender— is there another oil that works well to substitute or should I just use rosemary and cedar wood? I’ve seen some with Copaiba— would this work?
Thank you in advance!
Laura says
Yes, you can use copaiba instead. That is a great oil for hair growth!

Thank you for the recipes. Do you happen to have one for eyelash growth?

Thank you for this blend! When I was younger plucking/waxing your eyebrows thinner was the style. Now that I’m getting older they are thinning on their own¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I have a question regarding the concentration of essential oils in your blend. I have sensitive and dry skin. Due of this, I usually use a lower concentration of essential oils in my facial skin care products. If I were to decrease the concentration of essential oils would it still be beneficial in thickening my eyebrows?
Thanks,
Jamie(◕ᴗ◕✿)
Laura says
You’re welcome! Yes, you can definitely cut the number of essential oils in half for this recipe and it will still work!

Thanks so much Laura!
