Why You’ll Love Spring Room Sprays

  • These sprays will help you fully embrace the spring season! Different smells conjure up feelings and memories, and these blends make it feel like spring.
  • I love it when my home smells nice, but I want to avoid artificial fragrance. These DIY room sprays will give you all of the amazing aromas without any ingredients you don’t want.
  • With only 3 ingredients (one of which is water!), DIY room spray couldn’t be easier. In just a couple of minutes, you’ll have a spray ready to go.
  • Room sprays are customizable! You can use any of your favorite essential oils and skip what you don’t like or don’t have. Feel free to get creative and make your own blends, too.

What You’ll Need

Homemade febreze ingredients assembled on a wooden table.
  • Baking soda: This helps the oils disperse into the water, which means every spritz will be full of lovely spring fragrance!
  • Essential oils: Check out my favorite spring essential oil blends below!
  • Water
  • 4-ounce spray bottle: I prefer an amber glass spray bottle. Feel free to double the recipe and use an 8-ounce bottle.

How to Make Room Sprays for Spring

A bowl of baking soda with a spoon in it.

Step 1. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to a bowl and add in essential oils of choice. Mash with a fork to incorporate the oils.

An empty bowl with a spoon in it and a funnel with baking soda in it.

Step 2. Add the mixture to a glass spray bottle. A small funnel can be helpful with this.

Step 3. Top off the bottle with fresh water. Secure the lid and shake well.

Tips for Making DIY Room Spray

  • Mixing the oils with the baking soda is an important step to make sure the aroma from the oils incorporates into the spray. You don’t want to skip that step.
  • If you’re using a sprayer with a fine mist nozzle, please keep in mind that the nozzle may clog. To prevent this, be sure to clean the nozzle regularly to ensure it is free from obstructions. You can also opt for a different spray bottle that emits larger droplets.
  • If you find these room sprays too strong, feel free to reduce the amount of essential oils. This is a good idea for those with small children or pets around.
  • Not sure if you’ll like a blend? Give it a test run by putting those same oils in the diffuser. That way, you can see if you like it before committing to a whole bottle of room spray. Learn how to use a diffuser if you’re new to essential oils.

Can these room sprays be used as linen sprays if you use witch hazel and no baking soda?

  3. Julie says:

Thank you for the recipes! It’s interesting that you use baking soda. Of course, it does absorb odor, so it makes sense. I’ve always made my own room sprays, except I’ve always used witch hazel to help the oils mix in with the water. It also keeps the sprayer from clogging. I will definitely try using the baking soda, though!
