Looking for a simple, natural way to get that plump lip look? Have fuller-looking lips instantly with this homemade lip plumper! Made with just two simple ingredients, this DIY lip plumper is very effective and moisturizing.
What is Lip Plumper?
Lip plumper is a beauty product designed to give your lips a fuller look. It uses a gentle irritant to increase blood flow to the area, providing a temporary plumping effect for the lips.
There are a variety of lip-plumping products on the market, but you can make your own lip plumper at home for a fraction of the cost! With just two natural ingredients that you may already have on hand, you will have voluminous lips in minutes.
About the Ingredients
Cinnamon: The key ingredient, cinnamon is a natural irritant that will plump the lips by increasing blood flow to the area. All lip plumpers have some sort of irritant, but cinnamon is a gentle option. To be cautious, I use a very small amount in my recipes. I prefer to start with less and add more if needed.
Base Oil: Your lip plumper will need something to make it spreadable so the cinnamon adheres to your lips. For these homemade lip plumper recipes, we are using nourishing carrier oils to moisturize your lips as you use the product.
Lip Plumper Recipes You Can Make at Home
Skip the expensive store-bought lip plumpers and opt for one of these simple homemade versions instead! Each of these recipes will help moisturize and heal chapped lips while also giving you a full-lip look, so you’re sure to love any of them.
Cinnamon Lip Balm Plumper
This simple recipe uses any of your favorite lip balms to make a lip plumper that moisturizes and plumps. You can use any lip balm you have on hand or make your own using my DIY lip balm recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp lip balm
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir well until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Store in a lip balm container or other small jar.
- To use lip plumper, apply it to the lips with your finger or an applicator. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off.
Shea Butter Lip Plumper
This recipe keeps it super simple with a shea butter base and a bit of cinnamon! Depending on the temperature of your house, you may want to add a bit of liquid carrier oil to thin the mixture.
Ingredients
- 1Tbsp shea butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Dash of carrier oil if needed (olive oil or jojoba oil are good options)
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir well until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Store in a lip balm container or other small jar.
- To use lip plumper, apply it to the lips with your finger or an applicator. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off.
Brown Sugar & Cinnamon Lip Plumper
This natural lip plumper recipe uses a little brown sugar to add an exfoliating effect! When you wipe the lip plumper off, the abrasive sugar will remove dead skin cells. Use this recipe to keep your lips extra healthy and smooth.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp almond oil
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir well until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Store in a lip balm container or other small jar.
- To use lip plumper, apply it to the lips with your finger or an applicator. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off.
Note: Even though this is a homemade lip plumper, it’s always a good idea to prioritize safety. Patch test a small amount on your inner arm before applying it to your lips. This will help you identify any potential irritants or allergens you might not be aware of.
Remember, everyone’s lips react differently! Discontinue use immediately if you experience any redness, itching, or other adverse reactions. When in doubt, consult a dermatologist before using any new product on your lips.
How to Use DIY Lip Plumper
Using DIY lip plumper is very quick, and you’ll typically notice fuller lips immediately! I recommend using it right before applying other cosmetic lip products, such as my DIY lip gloss, tinted lip balm, or homemade lipstick.
To use a lip plumper, simply apply it to your lips using your finger or a lip product applicator. Allow the plumper to sit on your lips for a few minutes, then wipe it off. You may notice a tingling sensation in your lips after use; this is normal. Your lips will be softer, fuller, and ready for the rest of your makeup routine!
Lip Plumper FAQs
Yes, lip plumper is generally safe as long as you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients. These DIY lip plumper recipes are especially safe as they use gentle, natural ingredients such as shea butter and almond oil.
You can use lip plumper as often as you’d like to achieve a fuller, pouty lip look. That said, pay attention to your lips and use the product cautiously. If you notice any unpleasant reactions, stop using it immediately.

I made the cinnamon lip balm plumper and loved it!

I’ve had very thin lips my whole life, but now I’m 65 and have no appreciable lips at all, lol.
I’m camping and I never buy lip balm, and don’t have shea butter, so I used a few drops of olive oil instead, making a paste with cinnamon and brown sugar. I smeared it over not just the lips but the skin at the edges.
After a couple of minutes, I started feeling my pulse in my lips and knew that was a good sign. Kept the concoction on for several minutes more (trying not to lick my lips… cuz it was delicious) and when I was through, I had visible lips again, just like the old days.
I don’t know how long the effect will last, but I’m prepared to find private nooks to reapply it as needed.
Thanks for a great idea that works!
