When I first started switching to nontoxic home products, one of the things I missed the most was air and linen fresheners. I knew I needed to learn how to make my own ASAP!

I quickly made recipes for homemade room spray, rosemary mint candles, and linen spray.

Natural, homemade linen spray has become a staple in my home! When I want my space to smell nice, a quick spritz of linen spray on the furniture or throw blankets does the trick.

What I love most about a DIY linen spray is how it makes me and my family feel – namely, because of the aromatherapeutic essential oils.

These linen sprays are used at least a few times a week in my living space to leave a delicious fragrance and help calm down the chaos – no joke!

If you want an easy-to-make linen spray that uses only natural ingredients, keep reading for a simple recipe with 3 great scent options!

Why You’ll Love It

  • Freshen your space: A quick spritz of linen spray can do wonders for your home. It leaves fabrics smelling lovely, but it also gives the entire space a pleasant scent!
  • Natural ingredients: Commercial fragrance sprays can have a lot of potentially harmful ingredients, such as VOCs and formaldehyde. Homemade linen spray uses just two natural ingredients and scents your linens with soothing, natural essential oils!
  • Aromatherapy: Essential oils aren’t just a natural fragrance option, they can also have a positive impact on your mood! The aroma of essential oils can provide therapeutic benefits to humans and pets. I love misting linen spray in my living area when my family needs relaxation, uplifting, or energy.

What Goes Into This Recipe

Ingredients for DIY linen spray.
  • Essential oils: Choose from one of the delightful blends below, or get creative and make your own!
  • Witch hazel: Witch hazel is a natural ingredient made from the bark, twigs, and leaves of a witch hazel plant. It helps the essential oils emulsify so each spritz of linen spray is scented.
  • Spray bottle: Dark-colored glass bottles are best for the longevity of the essential oils.

Expert Tips

  • It’s always a good idea to do a patch test before using linen spray on a new material. Spray a bit in an inconspicuous area such as the back of the couch or in between cushions before using the linen spray everywhere.
  • Do not spray too much linen spray on a surface. You want to lightly mist, not saturate the fabric.
  • I like to use the lavender and chamomile linen spray on our duvets before bed for a calming and relaxing aroma.

Recipe FAQs

What is linen spray?

Linen spray is a refreshing spray used to add a pleasant fragrance to fabrics such as bedding, furniture, and clothes. Linen spray is ideal for hard-to-wash items, such as throw pillows or the couch, but it’s also great for quickly freshening items between washes!

What can I use linen spray on?

Linen spray can be used on any fabric in your home! Couches, blankets and pillows, curtains, clothes, rugs, and more. Linen spray is especially helpful on items that can’t be washed regularly, such as furniture. Keep in mind, it’s a good idea to do a patch test before using linen spray on something for the first time.

How long does linen spray last?

The scent of linen spray can last up to 3 days if sprayed on fabrics. Once the scent fades, a quick spritz of more linen spray will refresh it! If stored properly out of direct sunlight, these linen sprays will be good for about 6 months.

Hi Liz, Thanks so much for the comment! I actually got these bottles from a local store quite some time ago. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find them online. I did share a link to similar bottles in the How-To card at the bottom of the post. I hope that helps!
