- 1 tablespoon (0.25 oz) of jojoba oil

How to use a foot mask
Step one: Wash your feet and dry thoroughly.
Note, consider using a pumice stone or even doing a gentle foot soak to remove any dead skin from the feet before using this foot mask for the best results.
Step two: Next, coat your feet entirely with the mask. Don’t be shy here! Use a good, thick layer and work up the ankles, massaging it gently into your skin as you go.
Step three: Let the mask sit on your skin for at least 10 minutes. The longer, the better in this case. I like to get a good book and read a chapter or two while I wait!
Step four: Wipe clean with a towel or clean, damp cloth to remove residue.
Bonus step: Your feet should feel fresh and hydrated by now. I like to work a little cuticle oil on the toes, as my skin tends to get pretty dry there.
What is a foot mask?
A foot mask is a type of creamy or oily concoction (aka mixture) that you slather on your feet for a moisturizing, nurturing treatment.
Foot masks are best made from natural, earth-grown ingredients, as we do in our recipe above.
Essentially, you spread the mixture over your feet and ankles and leave it on for around 10 minutes, if not more, to soak into the skin.
Then wipe off any excess oils and enjoy your hydrated skin!
What does a foot mask do?
The main reason for using a foot mask is for its moisturizing properties.
This differs from a foot peel, which focuses on gently exfoliating the skin, whereas this homemade foot mask is all about moisturizing the skin on your feet.
The ingredients work together amazingly well to moisturize and nourish the skin, keeping your feet moisturized for days.
You’ll really see it and feel it working once it’s on your feet, improving your skin’s texture and leaving your feet feeling soft, smooth, and well-loved.
After all, we don’t pay our feet enough attention, so a foot mask is well deserved!
If you have thick calluses, you might consider a homemade foot scrub first to get rid of any dead skin.
A little on the ingredients
- Shea butter: A wonderfully rich moisturizer that works so well on the skin and is readily absorbed.
- Aloe vera gel: This is such a soothing product that is great for treating minor skin complaints and calming down inflammation.
- Jojoba oil: High in vitamins and healthy fats, jojoba oil creates a barrier on the skin, locking moisture in so the skin stays hydrated for longer.
Tips
- Don’t be afraid of using too much foot mask! It’s better to overdo it than underdo it, I think. The more mask there is on your feet, the more moisturizing qualities you’ll be getting.
- If you want even more hydration to penetrate the thicker skin on the soles of your feet, consider slipping on a plastic bag and tying the top loosely while you relax. This helps keep the moisture in, so it sinks in better!
- For an authentic (and enjoyable) home spa experience, light some candles, enjoy calming oils in your diffuser, and pop a towel on the warmer, ready to use to keep your feet cozy while drying.
Faqs
How long does this foot mask last for?
This foot mask is a one-time-use mix only. It won’t store well, so use it in one sitting and make a fresh batch the next time you want to use it.
How often should you use a hydrating foot mask?
This one’s up to you! I would like to use this foot mask once a week, though once a month would probably be more on par with what I’m able to do.
If you have particularly dry skin, you could use it one to two times a week. For extra hydration between masking sessions, reach for a regular foot lotion.
And of course, it depends on your plans and schedule, so do whatever works best for you!
Wrapping up
I hope you love this DIY foot mask recipe and the experience of using it on your feet!
Remember to use a good thick layer and cover your feet thoroughly, from the tops to the soles and ankles.
And if you feel like leaving it on for longer than 10 minutes, do! The longer it stays on, the better the hydration factor.
Your feet will feel (and look) amazing afterward!
