With this healthy peanut butter chocolate ice cream, this summer treat will quickly become a family favorite and leave everyone asking for more. No ice cream machine is needed.
HEALTHY HOMEMADE ICE CREAM WITHOUT ICE CREAM MACHINE
I have been making this healthy, peanut butter chocolate ice cream treat for many years. It is so simple and delicious. I decided it was time to share the love.
My kids love when I make “ice cream,” and I love that they think of this as ice cream. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely resembles ice cream, just without all the sugars and artificial flavors.
We enjoy this delicious treat mostly in the summer, but I would be lying if I say we never have it in the winter. It is too good to limit it to just one season. 😉

HOMEMADE PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM
We have made several variations to this recipe in the past, but something about that peanut butter chocolate combo made this one the all-time favorite. If you are one of those crazy people that do not love this combo (I have actually met someone who doesn’t like it), then keep reading for more variations.

HOW TO MAKE HEALTHY ICE CREAM
Ingredients and Tools?
FROZEN BANANAS
This recipe calls for frozen bananas. If you already have bananas in the freezer, you won’t have any wait time.
I like to buy bananas in major bulk, like 20 bunches at a time in bulk, and freeze them. Keep the bananas on the counter until they are ripe, peel them, break them in half, and then put them in a freezer-safe bag. I stack the gallon size bags in my deep freezer.
The riper the banana, the sweeter the ice cream. Don’t rush this part of the process. Once you have bananas stocked up, then you can whip up the peanut butter chocolate ice cream in no time.
One time I wanted to impress my family and friends with this recipe but realized I didn’t have any bananas in the freezer. I ran to the store on the morning of the dinner party and quickly peeled them and threw them in the freezer. They were not very ripe; big mistake.
After dishing out the ice cream, no one wasn’t nearly as excited as I expected. I tried a bite and was super disappointed. Needless to say, I never made that mistake again.
BLENDER
The only kitchen tool you need for this homemade ice cream is a blender. Yup, that is it! I have had lots of different blenders in my day, and I will say that they all work, but I have a favorite.
My favorite is the ninja blender. This blender has a large tall blade that allows you to make a more thick ice cream. I have made this with a little cheap blender, and it still works, but you have to add more liquid. The thicker ice cream makes it taste more like the real thing, in my opinion. But if you are a milkshake fan, then going with thinner ice cream may be your preference anyway.
When using frozen bananas, you won’t need to freeze the ice cream after it is blended.
MILK
You can make this with any type of milk. If you are dairy-free, you can try almond milk or coconut milk. We have made it this way in the past, but we prefer it with raw cow’s milk from the local farm.
I find that coconut milk makes it more creamy than almond milk.
