Wash your beard thoroughly. Use shampoo if you like; just make sure its beard shampoo, and remove any sticky or stuck-on edibles (it happens!)

Now that your beard is clean, let it air dry, or pat dry gently with a soft towel. Don’t scrub it dry vigorously, or you can damage the hair. 

Take a small amount of beard balm from your container and rub it between the palms of your hands. Once its melted, rub the balm onto the beard hair, then use your fingers to work it in. Use a downward motion to not only distribute the balm into the beard hairs, but to start shaping your beard.

Finally, use your wooden beard comb or boar bristle beard brush to style your hair.
