Stay fresh all day long with this homemade deodorant cream for your underarms. Made with natural ingredients like baking soda and essential oils, this deodorant is long-lasting and effective.
In a double boiler or a heat-resistant bowl set over simmering water, melt the shea butter, coconut oil and sunflower oil together.
Remove the mixture from the heat and let cool slightly.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda and cornstarch.
Slowly whisk the dry ingredients into the melted oils.
Next, use an immersion blender to combine the ingredients thoroughly. (This will take about 30 seconds.)
Add 20 drops of your chosen essential oils and mix well. (See pro tip below.)
Transfer the mixture to the fridge to set up. As it cools, mix it with an immersion blender every 10 minutes.
Once it starts to solidify, scoop the deodorant cream into a clean, dry container.
Let the deodorant solidify for several hours at room temperature, or refrigerate for a faster set.
Notes
I’ve included step-by-step images in the post above for visual guidance. If you would rather watch, I’ve included the complete step-by-step video tutorial here in the recipe card!
Start with 20 drops of essential oil and add more (up to 10 more drops) for a stronger scent. Be cautious, as some essential oils can irritate the skin. It's always best to do a patch test on your inner arm before applying it to your underarms.
The consistency of your deodorant will depend on temperature. If you live in a warmer climate it will be more liquid, and if you live in a cooler climate, it will set a bit harder. You can adjust the amount of sunflower oil to change the consistency of your deodorant depending on where you live and the season.
