Melt the shea butter and coconut oil in the double boiler. If you don't have a double boiler, place a heat-resistant glass bowl over a pot of water and then bring it to a boil. The bowl should be big enough that it rests on the edges of the pot while partially submerged in the water.
Stir the ingredients every couple mintues until melted before removing it from the heat to cool slightly.
Stir in the essential oils and place the bowl into the refrigerator. We need to let it set up slightly before whipping.
Keep an eye on the lotion. When you are able to press your thumb into the mixture and it holds the imprint, its ready for the next step.
Using a hand mixer, whip the lotion until it is light, fluffy and firm peaks start to form.
Transfer to a glass jar with an airtight lid for storage.

Store in a cool, dry place for up to one year.This is the lotion I make and use in our own house. Every baby has different skin, so please make sure these ingredients are a good fit for yours before you use it.Do a small patch test on the inside of the arm and wait a full day before you use it anywhere else. Check with your doctor before applying this lotion to children, especially a newborn or a child with sensitive skin or known allergies.Shea butter comes from a tree nut, so ask your doctor first if nut allergies run in your family. Keep the lotion off the hands and face and off any skin that is broken or already irritated.Store the jar and your essential oil bottles up high and out of reach of children.
